Tate Britain is an art gallery situated on Millbank in London, and the first gallery to be established within the Tate gallery network in Britain.
The main display areas in Tate Britain show the permanent collection of historic British art, as well as contemporary work. It has rooms dedicated to works by one artist, though these, like the rest of the collection, are subject to rotation.
Tate Britain hosts the annual and usually controversial Turner Prize exhibition, featuring four artists under fifty, selected by a jury. This is spread out over the year with the four nominees announced in May, the show of their work opens in October and the prize itself is given in December.
Tate Britain is located in Millbank, London, and is open every day from 10:00 to 17:50, with exhibitions closing 17:40. On the first Friday of each month Tate Britain attempts to reach out to a different and younger audience with Late at Tate Britain, which is open until 22:00, and shows live music and performance art. Entry to Tate Britain is free, except for major exhibitions.
